Last year, while conducting research for the Luster Family Book, we discovered that Edmund Luster was buried at Highland Cemetery in Chattanooga. We telephoned the office at Highland Cemtery to see if they had records for burials in 1948. They told us that they did have records for burials in the 40’s, but it was in a large book, and each entry was manually written.
They explained to us: although Edmund did not have a headstone, each burial in Highland Cemetery, has a plot number - with a section, row and column.
They were able to locate Edmund‘s plot and told us to meet them the following day so they could show us and explain to us where Edmund was buried. We met a gentleman who takes care of Highland Cemetery and he explained his process of finding the unmarked grave.
We brought flowers to mark the grave. It is right off the main cemetery road under a beautiful tree. It is nearby Edmund’s grandson Clifford‘s headstone. And with the help of Highland Cemetery we were also able to find Edmund‘s wife Nancy B Luster’s unmarked grave.
In the coming months, we ordered headstones for both Edmund and Nancy Luster. The headstones arrived and were set in position December 13th, 2021.
